Nucor Corporation
Nucor Corporation and its affiliates manufacture steel and steel products at more than 300 operating facilities primarily in North America. Nucor is the largest steel producer in the United States, operating 25 scrap-based steel mills with an annual production capacity of more than 27,000,000 tons. Nucor is also North America’s largest recycler, processing approximately 23 million tons of ferrous scrap annually to produce new steel that is 100% recyclable at the end of its useful life. Nucor, through The David J. Joseph Company, also brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron and HBI/DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap. Nucor’s headquarters are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the company employs more than 30,000 teammates.
Nucor Corporation is North America’s largest and most diversified steel and steel products company, with more than 300 locations. The company is also North America’s largest recycler. Nucor operates 25 scrap-based steel production mills in the U.S. that have an annual production capacity of almost 27 million tons. We lead the industry in tons of steel produced per employee. Nucor also makes up to 4.5 million tons of direct reduced iron (DRI), a natural gas-based iron input that is blended with scrap in our EAFs to make higher grades of steel. By using natural gas, our two DRI plants each emit about one-half the CO2 compared to iron produced in blast furnaces at integrated steel mills.
Nucor and its divisions produce a comprehensive range of products, including: carbon and alloy steel in bars, beams, sheet, and plate; steel joists and joist girders; steel deck; cold finished steel; steel fasteners; hollow structural steel tube; steel electrical conduit; and metal building systems. Nucor also owns the David J. Joseph Company, which processes scrap metal and owns and operates two direct reduced iron (DRI) plants – one in Louisiana and the other in Trinidad. Additional companies in the Nucor family include: Skyline Steel, a premier manufacturer and supplier of steel foundations; Harris Steel, which is North America’s largest rebar fabricator; Nucor Tubular Products, which produces carbon steel pipe and tubing, and electrical steel conduit; TrueCore, Centria and Metl-Span Groups which produces insulated panels; and Hannibal Industries the leading national provider of racking solutions to warehouses.
The green economy is being built on steel. And the steel it is built from matters. From electric vehicles (EVs) to offshore wind towers to modern high-rise construction, steel is a ubiquitous component of the U.S. green economy. Its flexibility, strength, aesthetics and relatively low cost have made it the choice of architects, engineers, manufacturers and consumers for more than a century. The markets and customers that Nucor serves are becoming increasingly aware and concerned about the environmental and social impact of their supply chains. And Nucor’s EAF-based steelmaking facilities, averaging more than 70% recycled steel, generate the lowest GHG equivalent emissions per ton in the steel industry.
Fundamental to our success has been Nucor’s commitment to remaining the employer of choice as well as becoming the World’s Safest Steel company for our team of 30,000 men and women, These commitments are essential to our overall success and evident to our core belief that our teammates are the most valuable part of Nucor. Their efforts and the Nucor culture, built on a foundation of trust and open communication, are the most critical elements driving our continued success. It has forged Nucor into America’s most diversified steel and steel products company, and North America’s largest recycler.
