Even with at least a decade of work on resilience, since its emergence as a priority in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, resilience is still not very well understood amongst government officials and the industry writ large. So, in May of 2015, the National League of Cities (NLC) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) partnered to host the first Resilient Cities Summit, drawing more than 50 attendees from cities and also the NGO and private sectors. Leaders from communities of all sizes and contexts participated in the two-day discussion.
The summit was hosted at the Aspen Institute, providing for an immersive discussion that revealed a set of needs, insights, and resources for cities as they chart their course towards a more resilient future. This report — co-authored by NLC, USGBC, and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) — summarizes the discussion, findings, and themes, and also offers a helpful set of resources.
